“It was unfortunate. It was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “Present was a large group of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the signal was completely unintentional, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I just showed the wrong digit,” he remarked. “The action was accidentally performed. This is sincere. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got corrected pretty quick.”
League Precedent for Owner Penalties
This is not the initial instance an NFL owner has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Previous examples involve:
- Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at fans in early 2024.
