Multiple Hurt as Turbulence Impacts Delta Aircraft Arriving in Sydney

A number of individuals sustained injuries when a Delta flight from Los Angeles to Sydney encountered significant turbulence Friday morning.

Delta Flight 41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it touched down at Sydney Airport, a company official stated. Several cabin crew members were injured.

Local paramedics reported they assessed a total of five people, and transferred a trio to a medical facility with minor injuries that comprised back pain and head pain. Those affected spanned from their 30s up to the 70s.

It is the latest incident of commercial jets experiencing turbulence, with aviation specialists indicating that shifting climate patterns is a key driver.

On board were 245 people and fifteen staff members on the wide-body jet, the official added, clarifying that the plane arrived "safely" at Sydney Airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on the day in question.

Emergency responders said they were alerted just only 180 seconds prior to the plane landed, and emergency vehicles were standing by on the runway.

The reasons turbulence is becoming more common - and more severe.

During the past year, twenty-five passengers and crew were injured when a Delta Airlines flight, on a route from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam, Netherlands, hit "significant" atmospheric disturbance just a couple of hours into the transoceanic journey, and was forced to make an precautionary landing.
