The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
